An upcoming French film which is sure to gain interest if the teaser trailer is anything to go by is La Rafle (The Roundup). Summary is behind the cut.

Thanks to Gaumont here are some brand new stills from the movie.

The movie stars Mélanie Laurent, Jean Reno, Sylvie Testud to name a few. A summary of the storyline is below:

1942. Joseph was eleven years old.

And this June morning, he must go to school, a yellow star sewn on his chest ...

He receives encouragement from a nearby dealer. The mockery of a baker. Between benevolence and contempt, Jo, his Jewish friends (like him), their families, learn about life in occupied Paris, the Butte Montmartre, where they found refuge. Or so they think, until the morning of July 16, 1942, or switch their fragile happiness ...

The Velodrome d'Hiver, or 13,000 Jews were rounded up crammed in the camp of Beaune la Rolande, from Vichy to the terrace of the Berghof, "the roundup" follows the fates of real victims and executioners. (Of those who have orchestrated. Of those who had confidence. Of those who fled. Of those who were opposed.)

All members of the film existed. All events, even the most extreme, have held this summer 1942.

I watched this film this morning, and it's the first film that has brought tears to my eyes!!
No actually, I take that back, it's the first film to make me sit and sob my eyes out.
I'm not as sentimental as it seems.
I watched it in french, as I live in France & went to see it with my school as part of the program. I don't know whether you can get it in english subtitles, or dubbed, but I'd reccomend it to anyone. The actors are simply amazing, the script well written, the quality, brilliant![smiley=wink]
